Follow-on Solstice S8 orders will support high-volume 4- and 6-inch InP photonics production for AI data centre optical interconnects.

ClassOne Technology has secured follow-on orders from two photonics manufacturers for multiple Solstice S8 wet processing systems, supporting the high-volume production of InP-based optical devices.

Configured with GoldPro gold electroplating chambers, the systems will process 4- and 6-inch indium phosphide (InP) wafers for optical devices used in AI data centres and high-bandwidth communications.

The Solstice S8 systems are designed to provide the thickness uniformity, surface roughness control and wafer-to-wafer repeatability required for high-volume InP manufacturing. The platform can also accommodate additional processes, including metal lift-off and wet etching.

The customers already use Solstice as their process tool of record for gold plating and expect to deploy further systems as their InP transceiver production capacity expands.

ClassOne said the orders reflect growing demand for optical interconnects as AI data centre bandwidth requirements increase. The company also highlighted the growing role of InP lasers in photonics integrated circuits and co-packaged optics (CPO).

The latest orders follow previous Solstice S8 purchases for photonics manufacturing and are intended to support the expansion of production capacity for next-generation optical connectivity.
